Thousands of years ago, these people found a home in a mountainous basin. The need to, well, climb a mountain to even access their home was (and continues to be) a great deterrent for any outsiders. This has led to them being largely unbothered by the coming and goings of the outside world, often residing in whole countries without their knowledge.

Living in cobblestone homes, this race of catfolk mainly live off of the land. How can a sizeable village of catfolk rely on a mountain to sustain themselves? Well, they do so in a few manners! The main way in which they feed themselves is the pond that rests in the middle of this basin, the fish inside of it so plentiful that they might as well be renewable. These fish are hunted, traditionally, with wooden spears. One can either hunt these fish from the shore or dive underwater. The other manner in which these folk feed themselves is gardening, nearly every household having one. Nearly every household grows enough food to sustain themselves and many trade off their excess to those around them. On rare occassion, mountain goats will be hunted. The goats of these mountains reside on the other side, generally where they cannot be seen, but on occassion their silhouette themselves on top of the mountain. It is like this that people take pot shots at these goats and, on occasion, down one. Goat meat is a delicacy due to this.

Now that their manner of feeding themselves is out of the way, how about their sexuality and social structure? A bit of an odd thing to focus on, maybe, but is is quite important. You see, sexuality is biological. in these people. Their genomes, roughly speaking as the writer is not a scientist, are divided into four sections: heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, and asexual. Bisexuality is the most dominant gene, asexual being the most recessive gene, and homosexual/heterosexual equally in-between these two. This has led to 75% of the population being bisexual, 20% of the population being heterosexual or homosexual, and merely 5% of the population to be asexual. With such a high rate of not strictly being attracted to the other gender, traditional gender roles aren't possible all the time.

Children are raised androgynously and without boundaries in relation to how they portray themselves, masculine or feminine, but each and every individual must decide on how to live their life by the age of 18 (or 19, if the village elders allow the date to be pushed back). It is here that one chooses between a life path of "masculine" or "feminine", each option generally going down rather stereotypical boundaries. Masculine people are expected to work, fish, hunt, and protect the family. Feminine people, however, are expected to cook, clean, and generally be homemakers. Of course, there are minor exceptions to every rule, but this is the way in which they've structured themselves. Due to this, marriage must be between a masculine and feminine person is the only accepted form of marriage. If a man and a woman are both "masculine" in their role to society, marriage is not allowed, and switching over from one role to the other after the decision made is not allowed.

What about an army? A way to defend themselves? Well, that is rather simple: they do not have an army, they are the army. Each and every person trains to be proficient with the latest in small arms technology, currently rifled flintlock long-arms (while the rest of the world is still in the matchlock age), so that they may defend themselves whenever necessary. Swords are worn as a fashion statement and, aside from the basics, are rarely trained with. Most swords are able to attach to long-arms like a bayonet, though. Thankfully, these people have never had to defend themselves from any form of invasion. Yet.

Jamie's society has been described by others as "Marxist Anarchism", if that helps you understand

    Jamie's Information

Now then, what about Jamie? This is a character board, after all, and you need to learn about Jamie! Yes, yes. I shall get to that!

Jamie Daughtler is a 19-year-old feline, born and raised within the comforting borders of the mountains. They are an energetic feline, skillful with a rifle, and an absolute monster when it comes to fishing (and subsequently devouring said fish). They are the pinnacle of ADHD energy and, subsequently, they are generally well-liked by those around them. Of course, like any great protagonist in a story, they have a secret:

Jamie is intersex, neither male or female. Of course, intersex is a very broad term and the representation of it is not entirely accurate, so let's just call it a fictionalized form of intersex. Jamie's body, if one were to strip away their breasts and their, well, penis, is about as perfectly androgynous as one could get. One stereotypically feminine characteristic is cancelled out by a more masculine one and, subsequently, masculine characteristic are cancelled out by feminine ones. Jamie is not a woman with a dick, they are not a "futanari", they are intersex.

One might think that growing up in a society where the roles of society do not follow gender might make such a thing easy for Jamie to deal with, but it has not been that way. Although leaning more masculine in how they act, they still do not feel committed to either side of the coin. They find themselves relating to everyone and nobody at the same time and, now, find themselves stretched on either end of said coin like a medieval torture device.

The village elders have granted Jamie their year respite to figure themselves out, but the clock has done come and gone on that. It is not uncommon for people to have their roles chosen for them, generally for those who could happily go either way, but Jamie is a rare case of not wanting to conform to either side. In fact, a problem such as this comes up so rarely in this society that there really is no standard procedure.

So, the village elders have decided: exile. There is a problem with this decision, though, and that is the fact that exile simply is not allowed. So, what are these elders to do? Well, simple: send Jamie out of their homeland on a mission to establish trade with the outside world, such a thing rarely done, and inform them that they are not allowed back until trade is established. The kicker? The demands for said trade were made so unfair that nobody would want to trade establish such a thing!

Of course, Jamie is oblivious to the outside world and what fetched what, so they took the job in the hopes of it giving them more time to figure themselves out. Now, they have left their homeland to see things that they have never seen before. There is hope in their eyes, glimmer in them like that of a tourist, but how long will it take for that glimmer to turn to darkness when they realize they can't return?
